Making The Time: Ending Procrastination

If you are someone who is constantly rattling off your to-do list in the back of your mind you can actually be HINDERING your progress.  By overthinking you are putting your mind into overdrive and it can feel overwhelming and exhausting.  Create some free space in your mind today by “decluttering your thoughts“.

Take a second to write down EVERY LITTLE THING that is in your head, and I mean EVERYTHING.  Then cross out the things you aren’t excited about that you don’t HAVE to do. Life too short to be wasting your time.

Ideas of What to Write:

  • wellness goals
  • projects you’ve been dying to start
  • chores
  • work deadlines
  • paying bills
  • anything else you can think of!

 

Schedule It Out

what needs to be done by tomorrow, by the end of the week, by the end of the month, in 3 months, in 6 months and what would you like to have accomplished a year from now?  Take all your “Growth” and “Stay” Tasks and now choose a realistic time frame for when you would like them done.

To take back the time in your life you need to use your calendar to bring your ideas into reality.  If you don’t have it scheduled in your calendar than you can bet that you won’t get things done.  When will you workout? When will you get your meal prep done?  Set deadlines and timelines for yourself that are REALISTIC and SPECIFIC.  don’t underestimate the time it takes to get things done.

NOTE: To stay organized try using Google calendars to schedule your appointments because it syncs to your phone and your computer, PLUS it’s free! So instead of saying: “I am going to the gym today” start saying “I will go to the gym today NO LATER than 9am” this is ESSENTIAL to moving your life forward.

 

What are “Growth” and “Stay” Tasks?

Tasks can be categorized in two ways

Gain: Gain tasks improve your life and move you forward. It’s about the experiences and accomplishments you want in your life. Gain tasks have no consequences if you don’t complete them, gain tasks are the things that you never HAVE to do but they produce the most positive results in your life.

Prevent Pain: these tasks simply prompt us to do what we have to do. You may have a lot of “have to” responsibilities, but no matter how many “have to” tasks you have on your plate you will always be able to fill your day with them. There is something that needs maintenance, to be cared for, cleaned up. Prevent pain tasks go on and on because they never really end, they always end up repeating themselves.

If you try to finish all your “PREVENT PAIN” tasks before you pursue “GAIN” then growth will never happen, because prevent pain tasks are never finished. You have to do both in conjunction with each other to be most successful.

What Should I Do Now?
