5 Reasons You’re Not Losing Weight


Do you feel like you’re eating all the right things and working out like crazy but seeing no results? Here is a few reasons why you might be struggling to shed the pounds.



1. You’re Stressed.

when you’re stressed out your body goes into what I call “threat mode” instinctively our body thinks we may be in danger and so we end up producing more of the hormone “cortisol” causing us to hold onto and store more fat. Balance and relaxation are key components to shedding weight.




unnamed-62. You’re eating inflammatory foods.

Dairy, gluten, and refined white sugar are 3 highly inflammatory foods meaning they wreak havoc in your immune system. If you want to lose weight try subbing the glutenous foods with grains like brown rice, quinoa, amaranth and kasha, switch your cows milk to almond milk, coconut milk, or another dairy alternative (avoid soy), sub cheese by making your own cashew or sunflower cheese or using nutritional yeast, and nix your sugar fix with sweeteners like stevia, raw organic honey or eat naturally sweet foods like fruit.


unnamed-13. You’re not eating enough anti-inflammatory foods.

Just like we talked about above inflammation can really mess with your metabolism and immune system – treat your body right by adding more fruits and vegetables into your diet – shoot for 2-3 servings of fruit and 5-7 servings of vegetables a day. BONUS: add anti-inflammatory herbs and spices into your diet like tumeric and ginger.



unnamed-24. You’ve been stuck on a low carb diet for too long.

While low carb can help you lose weight initially it is not a long term solution for weight loss. Low carb diets can have serious consequences on your health and your metabolism, we NEED carbs for energy and when we go carb free for too long we can create an imbalance in our hormones, not to mention most of the weight you lose on a low carb diet is water weight. Add some healthy grains back into your diet like quinoa or amaranth and see your energy and your fat burning abilities increase.

The reason most diets out there don’t work is because deprivation for lost is not sustainable. Who wants to go every day hungry and tired because you’re limiting your calorie intake? Instead of counting your calories focusing on eating more of the good and less of the bad.

EXAMPLE: if you feel like having a bag of chips ask yourself this question – “have I had my 5-7 servings of vegetables today? Or my 2-3 servings of fruit?” If the answer is no focus on eating those foods first , then if you still are hungry for the small bag of chips (made of high quality ingredients) by all means enjoy those chips! But 9/10 times you’ll find after you have filled your plate with all the healthy stuff you won’t be so hungry for the not so good stuff anymore.

  1. Everyone has a different take on diets, what food to eat, how to exercise properly. I’ve noticed one constant though, drinking more water each day really makes everything work and feel just a little bit better. Too many times we feel the need to fancy our liquids up with flavour when its just not necessary.
